Musique69 will be opening a pop-up store at the market organized by the “CASSETTE WEEK” secretariat, a cassette tape festival taking place in Tokyo on the upcoming holiday, October 12!

From the 1970s to the 1990s, cassette tapes defined an era as the dominant format for music media.

They subsequently fell out of favor with the general public due to the rise of physical digital media such as CDs and MDs, as well as the spread of downloads and streaming.

However, cassette tapes have since seen a resurgence in popularity, thanks to their unique sound quality, their compact physical form, and their retro, cute packaging.

The sentiment that “we’re rediscovering the appeal of cassette tapes” and that “they’re a new discovery for younger listeners who didn’t experience them firsthand” has gradually taken hold. In recent years, following the resurgence of vinyl records, cassette tapes have been gaining momentum worldwide as the next big trend.

Overseas, the annual “CASSETTE WEEK” event is held, and the numerous limited-edition cassette tape releases timed to coincide with this commemorative week have been well-received.

Similarly, in Japan, an event of the same name that supports the cassette tape revival has been held annually for over 10 years. In addition to numerous limited-edition cassette tape releases, a market featuring cassette tape retailers has also gained popularity in recent years.

This year’s “CASSETTE WEEK” celebration runs from October 11 to 17. Musique69 will be participating in the official event, “CASSETTE WEEK MARKET 2026,” which takes place in Shinjuku for one day only during that week.

With over 20 vendors offering cassette tapes, vinyl records, audio equipment, and related merchandise, our store will be making its debut appearance at this event all the way from Osaka. We look forward to seeing you there.

Since our store specializes in online sales, customers rarely have the opportunity to see our products in person.

However, we occasionally set up pop-up stores—but only when we support the event’s mission. This is a rare opportunity—our first in a full year since we participated in “OPEN FACTORY” in Yokohama last year—so our entire staff is really looking forward to it.

There will also be various DJ sets featuring cassettes and vinyl at the venue, so why not spend a relaxing holiday afternoon with us?

The venue is conveniently located about a 5- to 10-minute walk from Shinjuku Station on various train lines. To all you cassette tape enthusiasts out there, please invite your friends and be sure to come join us.

We’re proud to offer a unique selection of items, focusing on titles not typically available through general distribution channels in Japan, and we look forward to welcoming you (we’re especially confident in our selection of female pop artists!).

Payments at the pop-up store will be processed separately at each participating vendor’s booth. Our store accepts a variety of cashless payment methods (credit cards, e-money, QR code payments, etc.), so please feel free to use them.

We’ll also be handing out shop cards featuring discount coupons for our online store—valid after the market ends—to customers who stop by our booth.
